A Big Warm Welcome

I do hope you are having a lovely day. Get yourself a cuppa (one of our mugs I hope) and let me tell you a little bit about Katie Cardew Illustrations! From kitchen table beginnings to the lovely business we enjoy now, use the arrows below to take a peek at our journey…

(disclaimer – the next photo features a very bad turtleneck/moth-eaten jumper combo. Apologies to the fashion gods, I think it was very cold in there…)

Where it all began….

So this was where it all began. Autumn 2013. A little dissatisfied with corporate London life and eager to get her creative socks on, Katie Cardew started drawing illustrations of her friends and families houses. They went down a treat. She had a few little stands at local events (the photo is of Katie at her first show – Stamford Junior School Christmas Fair) and in no time, the bespoke illustration orders were coming in thick and fast. She began her fine art print range, mainly illustrating buildings in her hometown of Stamford, Lincolnshire, as well as country pursuits and British wildlife. A few shows, a very simple website and a lot of enthusiasm seemed to go a long way – no one was more surprised than Katie when her little venture started to take off!

Katie has enjoyed many career highlights over the past 5 years. She was commissioned by Harrogate International Festivals in 2015 to produce the official illustration for their marketing campaign and as a result, a copy of the illustration was presented to Prince Charles at a very special opening evening. Katie took her baby Agnes along, ensuing much cooing from the Royal couple and, thankfully, no exploding nappy.
Another yearly highlight is Burghley Horse Trials. Their local event, the world-renowned event is a wonderful show for the team and they always receive a rip-roaring welcome from their local customers. It is also a well deserved opportunity for a Pimms (or 3) after a hectic Summer season.

Bespoke Commissions…

Katie has, to date, taken well over a thousand commissions, for both private and commercial clients. The majority of her commissions are of houses and families; her trademark piece! To find out more about her commissioned work, please see the ‘commission’ section of the website. The product design work and the day to day running of the business takes a large chunk of time so Katie loves always having a commissioned project to work on. No two are ever the same – from a national rugby players wedding day to a little cosy cottage, the commission projects are wonderfully varied and something Katie will never tire of doing.

New Studio…

From starting at the dining room table, Katie and co have worked in numerous different locations until early in 2018, the team moved into their custom-built studio! It was a wonderful moment – finally a place where they could paint the walls, hold events and put together a pop-up shop. Heaven. Keep an eye out for Open Studio events – tickets available in the Shop section. Always a great day/evening filled with a few drinks, original watercolours and all the latest products.

Always Pushing Forwards…

Katie Cardew Illustrations is very excited to be growing (and no, not just because of the (blimming amazing) cakes Lucy keeps bringing in!) From prints and cards, the range has grown to include all sorts of beautiful homeware products – from cheese boards to tea towels, there is something for everyone. Katie’s quirky, bold designs always bring a smile to people’s faces plus each and every one of their products is made in the UK using local manufacturers, where possible. The result is that each product is beautifully and carefully crafted and made to last.
